Dr. Bastos received his MD degree at Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (1981). He owns a Masters degree mestrado in Colective Health by Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (1988) and he received his PhD degree in Public Health from Fundação Oswaldo Cruz in 1995.

Dr. Bastos is currently a researcher at Fundação Oswaldo Cruz and visiting researcher at the Imperial College, London, UK. His research activities are mainly related to the epidemiology and prevention of drug abuse and HIV/AIDS.

Author and co-author of more than 120 papers and 60 book chapters published in Brazil and abroad, Dr. Bastos has also been working as a translator and editor since his 20s. For more information about Dr. Bastos, click here (in Portuguese).
