Giselle Israel got her M.D. degree in 1978 and her M.P.H. in 2002 from Fundação Osvaldo Cruz. Since 1983, Ms. Israel works with the Brazilian governement on the federal, state and municipal levels.

In 1992, Ms. Israel started working at the Health Secretariat of Rio de Janeiro in the fields of Women's Health,
management of Basic Services and DST/AIDS, where she is now one of the managers. She joined the THRio study as a policy and advocacy coordinator in 2007.
